On April 26, Global News reported the first sexually transmitted Zika virus case in Canada. An individual contracted the virus from another individual who was diagnosed with Zika after traveling to an affected area. The Government of Canada has reported that 59 other Canadians have contracted this virus while traveling to affected regions. According to Public Health Agency of Canada, the overall risk to Canadians is still low. Zika virus is still a concern in countries of tropical and sub-tropical regions. It is highly recommended that pregnant woman avoid traveling to affected areas and others should take preventative measures against mosquito bites.
